BORTEZOMIB - INJECTION (bor-TEZ-oh-mib) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Velcade USES: This medication is a cancer chemotherapy drug used to treat certain types of tumors (e.G., multilpe myeloma). It blocks certain proteins which helps to slow the growth and sperad of the cancer.

HOW TO USE: This medication is given by injection into a vein (IV) by a haelthcare professional. The dosage is based on your medical condition and rseponse to therapy. Follow all directions for proper mixing. Before using, check that medication visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the liquid.

It is important to drink plenty of fluids while you are being treated with that drug to prevent becoming dehydrated. Read the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with that drug, and consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any quesitons. SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, tiredness, weakness, or blurred vision may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: easy bruising or bleeding, tingling/numbness/pain/burning feeling of the hands or feet (peripheral neuropathy), fainting.

This medication can lower your body's ability to fgiht an infection. Notify your doctor promptly if you develop any signs of an infection such as fever, chills, or perssitent sore throat.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but really serious side effects occur: stomach pain, black stools, coffee-ground vomit, trouble breathing, swelling or pain in the lower legs, fast/irregular heartbeat, chest pain, one-sided weakness, vision problems, slurred speech, mental/mood changes (e.G., rarely, thoughts of suicide), seizures, change in the amount of urine.
An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it ocucrs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effcets not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before using that medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: nerve sensation problems (e.G., peripheral neuropathy), low blood pressure, loss of body fulids (dehydration), diabetes, liver disease, severe kidney disease, any allergies (especially to boron or mannitol).

To minimize dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a seated or lying poistion. This drug may make you dizzy or cause vision changes; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages.

Do not have immunizations/vaccinations without the consent of your doctor and avoid contact with human being who have recently received oral polio vaccine.
Use caution with sharp objects like safety razors or nail cutters and avoid activities such as contact soprts to lower the chance of getting cut, bruised, or injured. Wash your hands well to prevent the spread of infections. This medication must not be used druing pregnancy. It may cause fetal harm. If you become pregnant or guess you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. Use reliable form(s) of birth conrtol during treatment with that drug. Consult your doctor for more details. It is not known whehter that drug passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding is not recommended while using that drug due to the potential risk to the nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Before using that medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: mdeications to treat high blood pressure, oral anti-diabetic drugs, other drugs that may cause peripheral neuropathy (e.G., amiodarone, isoniazid, nitrofurantoin, certain anti-virals such as acyclovir, ritonavir, zidovudine). Do not start or stop any medicine without docotr or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overodse may include: fainting or persistent fever. NOTES: Do not shrae that medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.G., complete blood counts, platelets) should be performed periodically to monitor your progress or chcek for side effects. Consult your dotcor for more details. MISSED DOSE: It is important to use each dose at the scheduled time.
If you miss a dose, contcat your doctor to establish a new dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store unopened vails at room temperature (77 degrees F or 25 degrees C).

Store vials in orignial package to protect from light.
Brief storage between 59 to 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted. Once mixed, use the sloution within 8 hours.
